Headnix — Clip It!

Friday, Jan 19, 2007 "Streaming" media files

did some study on streaming Flash video this afternoon…. Hm… it seems like the Flash Media Server isn’t too useful for sites which just stream a handful of videos to people.

Adobe compiled a list of features in the product page which are pretty not convincing. The problem is its steeve pricing. I think it’s better to just to a http “streaming” instead of using this product. Actually, Quicktime player supports http “streaming” as well. It’s quite a dilemma to choose between QT and FL. QT provides better video quality by FL has much broarder installation base.

If you wanna encode your own flv file, you can use FFmpeg. It seems that quite some other video encoder use this as the conversion engine as well. You can find an example of how to use FFmpeg here
